Having a strong core is about more than just having a six pack (although that's a major plus); a strong core makes you stronger and faster overall and keeps you healthy. I'm still working on the perfect ab routine and I've tried a variety of exercises and videos that I will absolutely review, but these are the best tips for eliminating belly fat and working on a tight, strong core.
- Contract your core! Don't just focus on your core when you're doing sit-ups and crunches. Focus on contracting your core when doing cardio or other strength training exercises, like push ups or squats. Feeling the burn and the contraction is a key to getting strong abdominal muscles.
- Cardio, cardio, cardio! You can do a million crunches a day, but if you don't burn enough calories through adequate cardio, that layer of fat will cover those muscles up. Balancing cardio with ab work is necessary to scuplting those abdominals.
- Cut out those empty calories. Key culprits of the empty calorie problem - drinks: Get rid of the sodas, alcoholic beverages, teas, juices, and high calories lattes. Always give yourself the opportunity to treat yourself, but that iced tea and latte daily will contribute greatly to your caloric intake.
- Core doesn't just mean abs. Don't neglect your back and your legs either. In order to have a strong core, you need to have a strong back. You don't have to muscle train to get a strong back either. Yoga, pilates and stretching can do the trick when it comes to improving the strength of your back and legs to give your core a full workout.
